Sophomore guard Josh Kozinski nearly outscored the entire Cassopolis basketball team Friday night in a clash of arch rivals.

Kozinski scored a game-high 25 points in the Eddies 51-35 victory over the Rangers, who got 20 points from Jacob Lee.

On a strange offensive night for Cassopolis, which only had three players score, Edwardsburg was able to go to Kozinski early and often as the Eddies built a 22-18 halftime advantage and increased it to 34-25 heading into the final quarter.

Kozonski, who also had six rebounds and four steals, scored nine of his points in the pivotal third quarter and was 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final stanza.

Edwardsburg (1-1, 1-0 Lakeland) spread the ball around in the fourth quarter as six Eddies scored.

Leading just 36-31 with 5:20 remaining, Marcus Albrecht snared a rebound and scored to extend the lead to seven. Moments later, Kyle Dale hit a jumper to make it 43-35 and ended any serious comeback bid by the Rangers.

Besides Kozinski’s offensive output, the Eddies also got nine points from Albrecht and five points from Ethan Zimmerman.

The other two Rangers to score in the contest were Oliver Fiala with 12 and Tyler Gilliam with 3.
