ALBION — If the release of the all-region teams by the D3football.com website provides an indication, the future is bright for the Albion College football program.

The Britons, who tied for second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, placed junior cornerback Chris Greenwood and sophomore running back Clinton Orr on the all-North Region first team, and sophomore left tackle Shane Jesiel on the second team.

Greenwood, a Detroit native who prepped at Martin Luther King High School, gained all-region recognition for the second consecutive year. He led the Briton secondary with four interceptions and set the tone for Albion’s 38-21 victory over Adrian College with a 62-yard touchdown return on the first possession of the game. He also wrapped up 24 solo and six assisted tackles.

Orr, a Buchanan resident and Buchanan High School graduate, finished second in NCAA Division III national statistics for all-purpose yards at nearly 200 per game, ninth in rushing at nearly 140 per contest, and 11th in scoring with 18 touchdowns. He gained more than 100 rushing yards in eight of the 10 games, exploding for 233 against Adrian and 212 against Hope. Orr became the first MIAA back to rush for more than 1,000 in league play, rolling up 1,030 yards in the six league contests.

Jesiel, a Sterling Heights resident who prepped at Henry Ford II High School, paved the way for Orr’s record-breaking season. He anchored an offensive line that yielded the fewest sacks — nine — in the league.

The team was selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff from 204 nominations from Division III member schools. The D3football.com Web site will release its All-America team prior to the Stagg Bowl on Dec. 18.
