MATTAWAN — The Niles wrestling team opened its season Wednesday night with a sweep of Delton-Kellogg and Vicksburg at the Mattawan Quad.

The Vikings defeated Delton 53-18 and Vicksburg 58-22.

Winning matches for Niles against Delton-Kellogg were Tyler Baber, Dakota Wright, Mike Chester, Cole Allison, Colin Burandt, Robbie Legus, Jerricho Lamberton, Fritzel Findeisen, James Asmus and Mike Gentry.

Baber won by forfeit, while Wright, Chester, Burandt, Legus, Lamberton and Gentry all won by pins. Allison was a winner by technical fall.

Picking up wins against the Bulldogs were Baber, Wright, Allison, Casey Burandt, Colin Burandt, Legus, Donte Stevens, Findeisen, Asmus and Gentry.

All of the Vikings wins against Vicksburg were by pins with the exception of Allison’s victory at 125-pounds by major decision.

Niles will be back on the mat Saturday as they a team tournament. Action begins at 10 a.m.

At the Sturgis Quad, Brandywine defeated Sturgis 43-28 and lost to Three Rivers 42-36.

Edwardsburg defeated Sturgis 54-17 and Three Rivers 63-6. Complete results were unavailable.
