NOTRE DAME, Ind. — A strong second half performance by Ben Hansbrough kept Notre Dame undefeated Tuesday night.

The No. 25-ranked Fighting Irish improved to 8-0 for the first time in coach Mike Brey’s 11-year career with an 81-72 victory over pesky Indiana State.

Hansbrough scored 19 of his 24 points in the final 20 minutes to play to help Notre Dame build on its 38-33 halftime advantage.

The Fighting Irish placed all five starters in double figures against the Sycamores (3-4) as Tryone Nash netted 16, Scott Martin 15, Tim Abromaitis 13 and Carleton Scott 11.

Indiana State was led by Dwayne Lathan’s 22 points. Jake Kelly (17), Carl Richard (14) and Myles Walker (10) also reached double digits.

Notre Dame opened the second half with an 8-2 run to take an 11-point (46-35) lead. Another 8-2 run increased the Irish’s lead to 59-45 near the midway point of the second half.

Notre Dame returns to action on Dec. 8 against Kentucky.
