Edward Eugene “Gene” Thompson, 66, of Berrien Springs, passed away at his home Nov. 29, 2010.

Gene was born April 19, 1944 to the late John and Mary Thompson in Cleveland Bradley, Tenn. Gene was one of three children growing up in the Thompson household.

After high school, Gene married Veva Stucker and went to work at Asarco Copper in Amarillo, Texas and retired as a foreman. Gene enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Thompson; mother, Mary (Fowler) Tusek; wife, Veva Thompson; a brother, Charlie Thompson; and a sister, Kacky Vazquez.

Gene is survived by his children, Vicky Devine of Niles, Edward Jr. (Dawn) Thompson of Amarillo, Texas, Lou Ann (Rick) Moore of Stevensville, Mich., Nikki (Al) Thompson of Niles and Douglas (Sandra) Thompson of Niles; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Frankie (Hilary) Thompson of Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services for Gene will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51 North in Niles at 1 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.

Memorial donations may be made in Gene’s memory to Hospice at Home, Inc. or to The American Cancer Society.
