Bobcats roll to Centreville Invitational crown

CENTREVILLE — Visiting Brandywine got off to another great start Tuesday night and cruised to the championship of the Centreville Invitational with a 65-33 win over the host Bulldogs.

The Bobcats (2-0) grabbed a 15-5 first quarter lead and never looked back.

“We did a good job again of creating some easy baskets,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “I was happy with the girls’ effort. For only having five practices it was nice to get this win.”

In the second quarter, Brandywine outscored Centreville 23-8 in the third quarter to break the game wide open. The Bobcats took a 38-13 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Brandywine held a 15-6 advantage in scoring in the third quarter as it increased its advantage to 53-19 heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.

The Bulldogs (1-1) outscored the Bobcats 14-12 in the fourth quarter to make the score a bit more respectable.

Madison Pellow led Brandywine with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Carlie Newman finished with 14 points and dished out seven assists. Kelsey Prestley had six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Morgan Smallwood finished with eight points. Mackenzie Shelton and Rachel Ort both scored five points with Shelton also coming up with five steals.

Carrie Miller led the Bulldogs with 10 points and six rebounds, while Christen Kahila added six points.

Dora Miller and Kaiti Miller both scored five points. Kaiti Miller also had eight rebounds.

The Bobcats will open up defense of their Lakeland Conference championship Friday night by hosting Coloma.
