Ruby May Wood, 80, of Niles, died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at her home in Niles of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 20, 1930 in Niles, where she was a lifetime resident. She worked at the Niles Daily Star. She was a member of Bertrand Bible Church in Niles, where she was involved in ladies’ groups.

She married Paul E. Wood on Jan. 24, 1948 in Niles. He preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Susanna Leak; a brother, Elvin E. Leak; and a son-in-law, Robert Ward.

Ruby is survived by her son, Paul (Jody) Wood, Jr. of Galveston, Texas; daughters, Sandra M. Ward of Bradley, Ill., Vinita Kay (Allen) Carpenter of Niles and Patricia Lynn Salyers of Niles; a sister, Evan Marie Swanson of Niles; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at Bertrand Bible Church, Niles with Pastor Tony Slagle of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 at the church.
