Niles Twp. man charged in drug raid

handcuffsA Niles Township man was arrested Tuesday after authorities executed a search warrant for drugs at his home.

James Nelson, 46, of 320 Davis St., is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of cocaine and maintaining a drug house.

At approximately 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, the Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Road Patrol and the Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Niles Township Road Patrol, executed a search warrant for illegal narcotics at 320 Davis St.

At the time of the search warrant execution, the officers located Nelson inside of the residence. Also located inside of the residence was a 46-year-old male Niles Township resident.

During a search of the residence, the officers seized approximately $500 worth of marijuana and a small amount of cocaine.

The officers also seized other pieces of evidence indicative of illegal narcotic trafficking and narcotic use.

As a result of this search warrant execution, Nelson was arrested and lodged at the Berrien County Jail pending his arraignment in the Berrien County Trial Courts.

The 46-year-old male was released with no criminal charges being sought against him.
