Bicyclist injured in accident Friday

A bicyclist was transported to the hospital Friday morning after between struck by a pickup while riding on East Main Street in Niles Township.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Niles Township Patrol responded at 4:10 a.m. to a vehicle versus bicyclist personal injury accident in front of 2112 E. Main St., Niles Township.

A white 2000 Ford Ranger pickup was eastbound on East Main Street when it crossed over the fog line and collided with one of two bicyclists who were also traveling eastbound.

The driver of the pickup, Scott Tesch, a 39-year-old Niles resident, was on his way to work when the collision occurred.

The injured bicyclist, Aaron Quinn, 27, a Niles resident, was riding parallel with a friend when Quinn was struck from behind. Quinn was transported by Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service and treated for his injuries at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

It does not appear that alcohol was a contributing factor to this accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The Niles Township Fire Department also responded to the scene.
