Dorothy Lenora Mitchell, 69, of Brown Street, Niles, died at 3:10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at Riveridge Manor, Niles, following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 14, 1941 in Chicago to Jack Mitchell and Elsie (Montleon) Mitchell. She graduated from high school in Chicago and moved to this area in 1961.

Dorothy was an office manager for several local firms including Beltone. She was proud of her father’s military service, and honored him by being an active member of the auxiliary of American Legion Post 26, Niles and AmVets Post 1978, Niles. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2094, Niles.

Dorothy was an avid reader, favoring fiction. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals.

She is survived by her companion, Kenneth R. Schilf of Niles; daughter, Sandy (Richard) Boone of Mottville, Mich.; grandchildren, Christopher Crumley of St. Joseph and Pvt. Cory Crumley, USMC of Quantico, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Crumley, who died April 20, 2005.

The family will gather with friends to remember Dorothy at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements were made by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
