MHSAA ChampThe Edwardsburg-Grand Rapids Catholic Central Division 4 semifinal football game at Vicksburg on Saturday can be seen live on FoxSportsDetroit.com and archived on MHSAA.tv it was announced on Monday.

The Eddies (11-1) will be taking on Catholic Central (10-2) at Vicksburg High School beginning at 1 p.m.

The game is one of six games that will be broadcast on Saturday by FoxSportsDetroit.com and MHSAA.tv.

Edwardsburg is making its first trip to the Division 4 semifinals, while Grand Rapids Catholic Central was the 1987 Class B state champion.

The Eddies reached the semifinals with a 41-13 victory over Otsego in the pre-district round, a 56-21 win over Paw Paw in the district championship game and a 35-28 win over Lansing Sexton last Friday night to capture the regional championship.

Catholic Central defeated Spring Lake 45-34 in the pre-district, won the district title with a 50-42 win over Zeeland West and knocked off Comstock Park 45-28 for the regional crown.

The winner earns a spot in the Division 4 state title game on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are $5 each and no passes will be accepted.

Volleyball quarterfinals

The Brandywine volleyball team will be facing Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central tonight at Jonesville High School in the Class C state quarterfinals.

The Bobcats defeated Bridgman 3-0 to win the district championship and then knocked off  Lawton for the regional championship last Thursday night.

This is the first trip to the quarterfinals for the Bobcats since 2003 when current coach Nikki Bush was a sophomore.

Brandywine reached the state semifinals before falling to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 15-2 and 15-12.

The Kestrels advanced to the quarterfinals with an upset win over top-ranked and defending state champion Bronson 21-25, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18.

Brandywine’s trio of seniors — Kelsey Prestly, Morgan Smallwood and Lauren Leonard — are no strangers to Monroe St. Mary CC as they helped the Bobcats defeat the Kestrels in the Class C state quarterfinals in basketball last season 47-37.
