Bobcats after regional title

Fresh off of its first district championship since 2003, the Brandywine volleyball team heads to Constantine tonight to take on Mendon in the second semifinal.

The Bobcats and Hornets will play at 8 p.m. after Southwestern Athletic Conference foes Lawton and Gobles square off at 6 p.m.

Brandywine (40-8-4) advanced to the regional semifinals with a 3-0 win over Lakeland Conference foe Bridgman on Saturday night.

The Bobcats defeated the Bees 27-25, 25-15 and 25-16.

Mendon (38-18-5) reached the regional semifinals with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-27 and 27-25 win over Constantine.

The Hornets were led by Amanda Lovell, who had 30 kills. Heather Medich had 22 kills and Leah Harrison finished with 28 kills.

Despite being sick, senior Lauren Leonard paced the Brandywine offense with 13 kills and 13 digs. Senior Kelsey Prestly added 12 kills, while Jessy Cooper had nine digs, three aces and 26 assists.

Gobles defeated Bangor to reach the Class C regional tournament.

The Tigers knocked off the Vikings 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22 to win the Lawrence district.

Junior setter Abby White led the way for Gobles with 33 assists and four aces. Senior Melina DeKilder had 14 kills for the Tigers.

The championship was the first since 2006 for Gobles, which will take on a familiar foe in Lawton.

The Blue Devils defeated Galesburg-Augusta 25-15, 30-32, 25-22 and 25-16 to advance to the regional semifinals.

Cassandra Willis had 19 kills and 17 digs for Lawton, which also got 20 kills from Carly Toso and 13 kills and 20 digs from Erika Whittington.

Setter Alyssa Barkovich finished with 59 assists and 13 digs.
