Classics and the contemporary at SMC fall concert

Southwestern Michigan College presents its Fall Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the theater of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus.

The SMC select voices, men’s ensemble, concert choir, evening chorale and the show choir will perform under the direction of David Carew, SMC choral director.

Works performed by select voices will be “Psalm 43, Op. 78 No. 2” by Felix Mendelssohn; “That Lonesome Road” by James Taylor and Don Grolnick; “Sicut Cervus” by G.P. da Palestrina; and “Linus and Lucy” by Vince Guaraldi.

The show choir will perform “21 Guns from American Idiot” by Green Day; “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz; a Lady Gaga medley “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance;” and “I’m a Believer” from “Shrek the Musical.”

Featured performance by the men’s ensemble will include “Brother’s Sing on!” by Edvard Grieg; “What I Have Done” by John Newton and House of the Rising Sun; and “Make Them Hear You” by Stephen Flaherty.

The college’s concert choir and evening chorale will perform “Lacrymosa, from Requiem, K. 62” by Wolfgang Amadeus; “God is Seen” by Captain Kidd; “I’m Goin Away” from Three Mountain Tunes; “Turn the World Around” by Harry Belafonte and Robert Freeman; and “The Battle of Jericho.”

General admission is $7 and $5 for students and senior citizens. Those 18 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased from the SMC Box Office at (269) 782-1280 or (269) 687-1600 ext. 1280.
