ST. JOSEPH — Berrien County Administrator Bill Wolf encouraged commissioners not to read too much into the 2011 special fund budget, when he presented it to them Thursday.

Although the budget show a decrease in revenue of 3.6 percent, Wolf said special funds are very volatile and will increase and decrease in value throughout the year.

“It’s a snapshot at this point of time with our special funds,” Wolf said.

The total budget for 2011 is currently $62.6 million while the 2010 budget was $65 million.

Commissioners accept donation for Animal Control Facility

Berrien County’s plan for a new animal control facility got a boost Thursday when the board of commissioners accepted a $215,000 donation.

The donation comes from the estates of the late Philip Molica of Cassopolis and Gloria LaPointe of Niles.

The money will be used exclusively for the animal control facility in a way that is above general operating expenses, as requested by Molica and LaPointe.

The donors will be memorialized at the new Berrien County Animal Control Facility to be constructed at a 48-acre site on Napier Road.
