Virginia Wolf, residing in South Bend, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 in DeWulf Assisted Living Home at age 94.

Virginia Wolf, 94

Virginia Wolf, 94

She was born Dec. 27, 1915 in Chicago to Walter and Helen (Klymzak) Kujawa.

On April 17, 1937 in Mishawaka, Ind., Virginia married George A. Wolf, who preceded her in death in March 1998.

Virginia grew up on a farm on Yankee Street in Niles, and attended a one-room school across the road from her home. She and her husband moved from South Bend to Gumwood Road in Granger, where she lived for 60 years.

She retired Feb. 1, 1976 from Uniroyal after 38 years. During her retirement, she was very involved in gardening and loved it. People said she had a way with plants. She said all she had to do was talk to the plants and give them tender loving care. She would raise all her plants from seeds in two small greenhouses. She furnished a lot of plants to people all over Granger, who kept coming back every year for more. She remained a farm girl, made her own butter and soap, canned goods, noodles, kieflies and her famous whipped cream cake. She learned to swim in her 70s, and for many years after, would go regularly to the YMCA pool. She was religious and strong in her faith.  After moving to Granger, she attended Mass at St. Joseph’s Farm in Granger and then St. Pius X Catholic Church. She supported several Catholic charities.

She had many nieces and nephews whom she cherished, but the apple of her eye was her grandson, John.

The four words that best describe Virginia’s life are inquisitive, perfectionist, forgiving and laughter.

Virginia is survived by one daughter, Mary Louise Wolf of South Bend; one grandson, John David Owen of Chicago; and two brothers, Henry (Shirley) Kujawa and Harry (Delores) Kujawa, both of Niles.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Kovatch; and nine siblings, Felix, Walter, Zygmonth and Joseph Kujawa, Mary Kujawa Wachowiak, Helen Kujawa Hess, Sarah Kujawa Shilling, Edna Kujawa Egmer and Catherine Kujawa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger.

Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, and also from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at church, prior to services.
