Edwardsburg’s Josh Clark ran away from the field early and claimed back-to-back Lakeland Conference Cross Country championships on Monday afternoon.

While he was the runaway individual winner, Bridgman did the same thing with the team title.

The Bees placed six in the top 10 on their way to 20 points. Edwardsburg was second with 53 points and Brandywine third with 75. Berrien Springs and Buchanan were fourth and fifth with 109 and 122 points respectively. Coloma did not have a full team.

Clark, who ran a 16:02 at the Rock-N-Run held earlier this month on the Eddies’ home course at Dowagiac Middle School, managed just a 16:44 on Monday. He didn’t seem to care because winning was more important than time on this day.

“It feels really good,” Clark said of winning another conference championship. “This a meet you come out and run for place not time because you get to call yourself conference champ.”

Bridgman grabbed places two through seven, led by Cameron Magro, who finished with a time of 17:04. Brandywine’s Michael Robbins was eighth with an 18:16, while Edwardsburg’s Ben Getz rounded out the top 10 with a time of 18:24.

Berrien Springs and Buchanan ended up in a tie when the points were counted for the girls’ race. The Shamrocks earned the conference championship based on the placing of their sixth runner. That tiebreaker went in favor of Berrien Springs 17-22.

The Shamrocks’ Jessica Nave was the individual conference champion as she posted a time of 21:18.

Buchanan’s Stephanie Reith was the Lakeland runner-up with a time of 22:03, while Kelly Ferguson of Bridgman (22:17), Lindsay Ward of Edwardsburg (22:32) and Kelsey Stevenson of Bridgman (22:42) rounded out the top five finishers.
