It’s the final week of the regular season for our high school football teams and it appears that most of them will look back at 2010 and call it a success.

Three of our local teams have already qualified for the post season with one other needing just one more victory to move on.

Buchanan enters tonight with an 8-0 record and the Bucks are at the top of Division 5 when it comes to playoff points. That should mean that no matter what the outcome tonight’s showdown with Muskegon Heights, the Bucks should host a first round game.

Edwardsburg qualified for the playoffs a couple of weeks ago as well and the Eddies could end up with a home game if they can knock off Nouvel Catholic Central tonight.

Cassopolis, after pulling out a squeaker against Coloma last week, also has qualified for the playoffs. The Rangers will be making their fifth straight appearance.

No matter what happens tonight in the regular season finale against White Pigeon, Cass will be on the road for the opening round of the playoffs.

Dowagiac is still in need of one more victory if it wants to keep its streak of playoff appearances intact. The Chieftains have reached the post season each of the last five seasons, but must defeat 7-1 Paw Paw on Friday night to advance.

All four of these games should be worth the price of admission.

If you haven’t gotten out to see any of these teams yet this season, there is no better time than tonight.

Buchanan, Edwardsburg, Cassopolis and Dowagiac will all be facing quality opponents at their home venues.

Niles and Brandywine will also be wrapping up their seasons tonight. Neither team will advance to the playoffs, but with wins against Kalamazoo Loy Norrix and River Valley respectively, each can end the year on a high note.

For the Bobcats, a win over the Mustangs would give them their first winning season since 2002.

So get out and enjoy the final regular season football game and support your favorite team.
