Orr top MIAA player

ROYAL OAK — The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Albion running back Clinton Orr, Adrian linebacker Danny Taylor and Kalamazoo kicker Travis Braun its Players of the Week in football for games played Oct. 16.

Offensive Player of the Week

Orr, a sophomore, accounted for 276 yards of all-purpose running and scored two touchdowns in leading Albion to a 27-14 victory over Hope. He rushed for 212 yards on 35 carries and one touchdown, and caught two passes for 58 yards and another score.

Orr leads the MIAA in rushing at 124.3 yards per game and scoring at 10.3 points per game and he’s second in all purpose yards at 185.1 yards per game.

Albion continues MIAA action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it tackles Olivet College at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Orr is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and fourth time in his career.

Defensive Player of the Week

Taylor, a senior from Commerce Township (White Lake Lakeland HS), made 12 tackles, including seven solo stops, and blocked an extra point in the Bulldogs’ 23-19 loss to DePauw, Ind. Taylor is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in his career.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Braun, a sophomore from Huntington Woods (Berkley HS), tied an MIAA single-game record with four field goals in Kalamazooís 33-13 victory over Olivet. He booted field goals of 20, 21, 36 and 41 yards, and added three extra points. Braun, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career, has eight field goals in nine attempts in league play this season.
