Since Niles Township trustee Michael Bailey resigned from his position on the board last month, the township has received eight letters of intent and resumes from residents interested in the vacant seat.

The deadline for applications is Nov. 1, the date when board members will begin reviewing resumes.

Township Clerk Marge Durm-Hiatt said the board will then narrow the pool of candidates to three finalists, who will be interviewed by the board. She hopes a new trustee will be appointed by Nov. 15.

The new trustee will serve until the end of Bailey’s term, Nov. 20, 2012.

Bailey resigned amidst criticism and a potential recall after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure in April.

Those interested in the position should send a letter of intent and resume to Clerk Marge Durm-Hiatt by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1. Applications can be sent to 320 Bell Rd. Niles, MI 49120 or to mdurm-hiatt@nilestwpmi.gov.
