On a night when the Brandywine volleyball team honored its seniors, River Valley proved to be nothing more than a speed bump for the Bobcats.

Serving up 30 consecutive points over one stretch, Brandywine rolled to a 3-0 non-conference victory over the Mustangs.

The Bobcats, who honored seniors Kelsey Prestly, Morgan Smallwood and Lauren Leonard before the match, defeated River Valley 25-3, 25-6 and 25-12.

Brandywine set the tone in the opening set as after Prestly banged down three consecutive kills to state the ’Cats to a 4-1 lead, she stepped to the service line and unleashed 17 straight points.

After 14 straight points, the Mustangs tried to ice her with a time out, but she followed that with three more winners to end the first game.

As if that wasn’t enough, sophomore Jessy Cooper opened up the second game with 13 straight winners for the Bobcats, who also got five consecutive points from Mackenzie Shelton in another blowout.

Brandywine wasn’t nearly as effective in the third set, but still managed to open up a 6-0 lead on five straight service points from Ashley DeJonge, while Lanisha Brann added five winners to extend the Bobcats’ advantage to 17-5.

On the night, Prestley finished with 11 aces and 10 kills, while Leonard added eight kills. Cooper finished with 21 assists.

“I have never seen that before, but it feels good,” Brandywine coach Nikki Bush said. “The seniors have been great. They are the core of our team and they are hopefully going to be what gets us through a lot of the post season.”

The Bobcats will take some time off before playing for an undisputed Lakeland Conference championship on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the league tournament.
