There are only two weeks remaining in the high school football regular season and I am poised for the stretch run.

After going 4-0 last week, I am now 28-3, which raises my winning percentage to .903.

I am pretty proud of that mark, but I hardly want to fall off the wagon the final two weeks of the regular season.

So I am looking carefully at a couple of these games because they mean an awful lot to our area squads.

Dowagiac and Cassopolis are still one game shy of qualifying for the post season.

The Chieftains head up to Otsego for a key Wolverine Conference clash with the Bulldogs, who are also 5-2 on the year and need another win.

Otsego has defeated both of the teams that beat the Chieftains this season. Last week the Bulldogs defeated Allegan 36-32, while the previous week they defeated Vicksburg 21-7.

Dowagiac is one of the highest scoring teams in the area, averaging 43 points per game. The Chieftains are also allowing the least amount of points in the Wolverine Conference.

Both of those will come into play tonight as Dowagiac reaches the post season for the sixth straight year with a 42-32 win over Otsego.

Cassopolis at Coloma

The Comets are just 1-6 on the season and will be no match for the Rangers.

Cassopolis is coming off a 42-21 loss to Buchanan last week and will be looking to take it out on someone.

Unfortunately that someone is the Comets and they get steamrolled by the Rangers 48-7.

Benton Harbor at Niles

The Vikings are in need of two wins to produce their first winning season since early in this decade.

The Tigers are 0-7 on the year and although they may give the Vikings some trouble early on, Niles will come out with a win which will square their record at 4-4.

The Vikings knock off the Tigers 28-7.

Brandywine at Buchanan

It’s been a good year for the Bobcats, but back-to-back games against the best two teams in the Lakeland Conference will take a toll tonight.

The Bucks (7-0) will win the outright league championship with a victory and will move a step closer to hosting a first round playoff game.

Buchanan wins this one in convincing fashion 48-14.

Edwardsburg at Berrien Springs

The Eddies are fresh off a big win over Brandywine, which earned them a spot in the post season for the first time since 2005.

To celebrate that accomplishment, Edwardsburg will ride into Berrien Springs and dismantle the Shamrocks.

The Eddies scored on three of their first four plays last week, but while they will not accomplish that feat this week, they will score early and often in posting a 52-8 win.
