Armed robbery at Vineyard Place

Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reports that the city Police Department investigated a report of an armed robbery that occurred at Vineyard Place Apartments on Riverside Drive.

At approximately 1:58 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, police were alerted to two male subjects near Riverside Apartments who were possibly carrying weapons.

Officers were given a possible suspect vehicle description and located the vehicle on Riverside Drive near Hill Street.

Officers also located the victim, who was following the suspect vehicle in another vehicle.

The victim informed officers that he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money while in his vehicle in the parking lot of Vineyard Place Apartments.

Officers received information that two suspects ran into a wooded area behind Riverside Apartments.

Officers began searching that area and located the two suspects in the woods.

The suspects were taken into custody and officers located money and marijuana on them.

Dowagiac police arrested a 17-year-old South Bend, Ind., resident for armed robbery and possession of marijuana.

The second suspect, a 17-year-old Dowagiac resident, was arrested for resisting and obstructing police.

Both were lodged at the Cass County Jail pending formal charges through the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police Thursday withheld names of the suspects pending arraignment in Cass County Fourth District Court in Cassopolis.

Police were assisted in this investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Michigan State Police and detectives from the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team.
