All treats, no tricks in downtown Niles

Trick-or-treaters will have plenty of options to show off costumes in Niles Saturday, Oct. 30.

Niles Costume Contest

The Niles District Library will have its annual Niles Costume Contest from 1 to 4 p.m.

Costume categories are cutest, scariest, funniest and book characters. Age divisions are 0-4; 5-8; and 9-12; a $25 book store gift certificate will be awarded to each age group and category winner.

Door prizes, entertainment, a video “gamefest,” balloons and magic will also be on hand.

Parents and children may register for the parade and prizes in the children’s department between 1 and 3 p.m.

Safe Downtown Trick or Treat

The annual Safe Downtown Trick or Treat will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. between Front and Fifth streets.

Pumpkin sale and decorating contest

Pumpkins will be available for purchase beginning Friday for the pumpkin sale and decorating contest Monday, Nov. 1 in Niles.

Small pumpkins are $2 and large pumpkins are $4; cost includes entry into contest. Sale times are Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 210 East Main St.

Take pumpkins home and decorate them. Return decorated pumpkins to any downtown merchant with a purple pumpkin in its window. Pumpkins will earn votes beginning Monday by receiving $1 donations per vote. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.
