John F. Wright, Jr., 59, formerly of Niles, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Marion, Ind. following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 13, 1951 in Chicago to John Francis Wright, Sr. and Jean Ann Rodgers. He graduated from Niles High School and lived there most of his life.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed rebuilding engines for family and friends as well as building hot rods.

John is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Mercado of San Diego; grandchildren, Jessica and Lewis; mother, Jean French of Niles; brothers, Tom Wright of Niles, Dan Wright of Ozark, Ark., Paul Wright of Chicago and Ed Wright of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at the graveside in Niles with the Rev. David Otto of Saint Mary Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Niles. A flag presentation and “Taps” will follow services at the graveside by United States Navy Honor Guard.

There will be no visitation.
