BUCHANAN — The city of Buchanan will have a familiar face as its new city manager.

Police chief and interim city manager Bill Marx was selected as the new permanent manager by the Buchanan City Commissioners at their meeting in a packed City Hall Monday night. The vote to hire Marx and enter into contract negotiation was passed unanimously.

The announcement was met with applause from the 40-plus people in attendance.

“It was not an easy decision,” Mayor Carla Cole said. “We felt he was the person to keep the city moving forward. He’s great with people, great at talking, listening and working with employees.”

Cole said Marx will retain his position as police chief as well.

“He has done a great job and will continue to do so,” said commissioner William Norton.

Marx was named the interim manager after Meg Mullendore resigned in June.

There were 71 applicants for the position, and the commissioners interviewed six finalists last week.
