NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In one of the fastest first quarters of the season, Notre Dame took a 7-0 lead on Pittsburgh.

The Fighting Irish capped off a 77-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Dayne Crist to Michael Floyd after the Panthers grabbed a 3-0 advantage with a 26-yard field goal.

Pittsburgh has been able to move the ball on the Notre Dame defense, but the Fighting Irish have stiffened when it counted.

Pittsburgh quarterback Tino Sunseri hit his first eight passes of the game. He finished the first quarter 8-of-9 for 88 yards.

Standout Panther running back Dion Lewis started the game and had an eight yard gain on his first touch. Fellow sophomore running back Ray Graham has also ran the ball well in the opening 15 minutes of the contest.

  • Pittsburgh finished the first quarter with a 119-64 advantage in total offense. Both teams ran 16 offensive plays.
  • Notre Dame’s Crist was 6-of-8 for 49 yards and the touchdown, but was sacked twice by the Pittsburgh defense.
  • Floyd already has three catches for 20 yards.
