To say the Edwardsburg offense was clicking Friday night might be a bit of an understatement.

The Eddies were firing on all cylinders in a 49-12 Lakeland Conference victory over host Brandywine on homecoming night for the Bobcats.

The win improved Edwardsburg to 6-1 and qualified the Eddies for the post season for the first time since 2005.

The Eddies scored a touchdown on every drive as they racked up 400 yards in total offense, of which 397 of it came on the ground.

Lee Williams and Adam Kendall each scored two touchdowns for Edwardsburg, while five different players found the end zone on the night.

“Our focus was obviously the game itself, but with it being the ticket into the playoffs it meant a lot,” Edwardsburg coach Kevin Bartz said. “We wanted to come out and be able to execute everything we did and offensively right from the beginning we did.”

That’s for sure. The Eddies scored three touchdowns on their first four offensive plays.

After Brandywine punter Stone Hadley was tackled after a bad snap at the its own 18-yard line, Lee Williamson took the handoff and burst through the Bobcats’ defensive line and raced into the end zone.

On its next possession, Adam Kendall took off on a 71-yard run and the Eddies owned a 13-0 advantage after the extra point was blocked.

Edwardsburg put up two more scores in the second quarter as Austin Stinnett got into the act with a 40-yard run. This time, the Eddies went for two and Ethan Zimmerman connected with Kyle Dale for the conversion to make it 21-0 with 11:01 showing on the clock.

The Bobcats were able to move the ball on Edwardsburg thanks in part to the switch from receiver to running back by Jacob Frazier. Problem was, the Eddies grounded the Brandywine passing game and never really let the Bobcats’ quarterback Hadley get anything going.

“Defensively, we bent early but we didn’t break,” Bartz said.

The lead reached 27-0 when Kendall scored, this time on a 20-yard run. Again the kick was blocked by the Bobcats and the two teams headed to the locker room with Brandywine down four touchdowns..

The second half was a bit kinder to Brandywine, but it still was unable to keep the Eddies out of the end zone.

Williamson got his second touchdown of the night on a 9-yard run and Chad Tevlin added a 32-yard score in the third quarter to make it a 42-0 contest heading to the fourth.

Brandywine sandwiched Edwardsburg’s final touchdown with two of its own.

After Frazier bulled his way down the field and into the red zone, the Bobcats’ averted the shutout with 9:27 to play when Dustin Sater capped a nice drive with a 12-yard run.

Brandywine went for two on the conversion, but the run failed.

After Cole Golden scored on a 4-yard run for the Eddies, Frazier, who finished the night with 134 yards on 25 carries, scored from two yards out. Again the ’Cats went for two, but the run failed.

Brandywine, which ran 61 plays to Edwardsburg’s 27, finished with 238 yards in total offense. Sater had 70 yards on 17 carries.

“When you run 61 plays to their 27 you don’t expect to get beat 49-12,” Bobcat coach Mike Nate said. “They were the better football team. We just couldn’t stop them. But there were some positives. I think we have the makings of a pretty good backfield with Frazier, Sater and Hadley. There were definitely some things we can build on after tonight.”

Stinnett led the Eddies defensively with 11 tackles, while Jack Harrison added nine. The Bobcats got six tackles from Sater and five tackles from Adam Earles.

Brandywine heads to Buchanan on Friday night to take on the 7-0 Bucks, while the Eddies will travel to Berrien Springs to take on the Shamrocks.
