Dowagiac Fire Department reports that on Wednesday morning, Oct. 6, at 8:55, it responded to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Sherwood Street.

Deputy Fire Chief Dale Hutchings said the first engine arrived at 9:01 a.m.

Upon arrival, fire units reported smoke showing from the structure.

The fire was brought under control at 9:05 a.m.

Fire damage was confined to the laundry room.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Dowagiac Police Department, CEMS ambulance and the Dowagiac Building Department.

No injuries were reported and the fire investigation revealed that the fire was accidental.

All Dowagiac firefighters cleared the scene at 10:30 a.m., Hutchings reported.
