Dowagiac City Council Monday night accepted a revised water operator agreement with the Cass County Board of Public Works for maintenance of the Penn Township, Donnell Lake and Diamond Lake water system beginning June 16, 2011.
All agreements to maintain water systems funded with federal Rural Development funds are subject to review by Rural Development, which required one addition to the agreement.
Explained City Manager Kevin Anderson, “One additional stipulation because the federal government is financing this is if an emergency repair is done, we can do it up to $3,000, but if it’s more than that we have to have authorization.
“We’re perfectly fine with that. We actually would have anticipated doing that anyway. Certainly the owner of the system needs to be involved in any major expenditure.”
“That’s the only addition” to an eight-page agreement council approved earlier this year, the city manager said.
