Jay’s life began on Aug. 1, 1934, in Chicago, the son of John and Henrietta (Buikema) Rusthoven.
He was united in marriage to the former Bernice Schuttinga on March 25, 1955, in Highland, Ind.
Jay, 76, of Sister Lakes, was a self-employed refuse and disposal hauler.
He was a member of First Reformed Church of Decatur.
He is survived by: his wife, Bernice Rusthoven of Sister Lakes; two children, Sherrie (Terry) Swisher of Dowagiac and Randy Rusthoven of Whiting, Ind.; three grandchildren, Janelle (Jared) Sievert, Brent (Melanie Seifferlein) Swisher and Shawn Swisher.
Jay passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis.
He is preceded in death by a son, Ricky Rusthoven, in 1994.
His family received friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at First Reformed Church of Decatur, where his funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Mark Hofstra.
He will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery, Highland, Ind., at 3 p.m. (Indiana time) on Monday.
