Dowagiac cross country teams swept by ’Cats

THREE RIVERS — Chris Gantt of Dowagiac was the overall winner in the boys’ race, but host Three Rivers came away with the 20-43 victory over the Chieftains on Tuesday afternoon.

The Wildcats also won the girls’ race as they swept the top five places to score a 15-48 win over Dowagiac.

Gantt ran a time of 19:03 to defeat Three Rivers’ Conner Sampson, who finished 22 seconds behind with a 19:25.

Dowagiac’s Jason Turner finished 10th with a time of 23:24, Tyler Cross 11th with a time of 23:27, Shane Filley 16th with a time of 33:43 and Buddy Newman 17th with a time of 33:44.

Julian Marshall was 18th (34:05), Austin Francois 19th (37:27) and Kenney Gibbons 20th (40:29).

“Chris Gantt has run very well for us all year and continued that today,” Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. “Three Rivers is a very tough course and he was never challenged.”

Morgan Stuut of Three Rivers was the girls’ winner with a tie of 21:17.

Holly Luth led Dowagiac with a seventh place finish and a time of 29:24.

The Chieftains also got top 10 finishes from Amber Eblin and Sammy Mathews, who were eighth and 10th respectively with times of 29:25 and 30:31.

Kendra Wilson was 11th (31:45), Amanda Hassle 12th (31:46), Kristina Bunn 13th (32:09), Sarah Long 14th (32:41), Rebecca Luth 15th (33:01), Kayla Yakim 16th (35:44), Paige Schaus 17th (35:45), Corinne Kasper 18th (36:42), Erin Stanton 19th (37:18), Morgan Helmuth 20th (42:48), Jenna File 21st (43:02), Brittany Smith 22nd (44:35) and Sarah Hassle 23rd (44:36).
