Dowagiac freshmen, JV sweep Vicksburg

The Dowagiac freshman football team rolled to a 66-12 victory over visiting Vicksburg last Thursday night at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.
The Chieftains were led by Austin Broda, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Dowagiac also got 58 yards and two scores from Shane Bevins and a rushing and receiving touchdown from Aaron Adams. Lucas Petro added 51 yards rushing and a touchdown as well as returning a punt 80 yards for a score.
Also scoring touchdowns were Ray Vega, Brody Froehlich and Davion Highsmith.
Defensively, Bevins led the Chieftains with nine tackles. Broda and Adams both picked off passes.
“I knew we were going to have a good night during pre-game,” Dowagiac coach Tony Scaccia said. “Our offensive line of Josh Cooper, Trevor Lietz, Jacob Chapman, Travis Edwards and JesseMast were fired up. They played great and our backs ran hard. Now we get prepared for Allegan.”

The Dowagiac JV football team bounced back from its loss to defeat Vicksburg 55-12 last Thursday night.
Scoring for the Chieftains Brendon Murray, Derek Stark, Todd McIntyre and Brandon Pompey.
B.J. Aguirre added a 37-yard field goal.
“We played well in all aspects of the game,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “The offensive line did a great job of blocking and the backs did a great job of finding the holes.”
