PAW PAW — The Dowagiac cross country teams finished sixth and ninth respectively at the Paw Paw Harvest Festival Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.

Portage Central captured the boys’ championship with 39 points.

Otsego was second with 50 and Mattawan third with 52.

Dowagiac finished sixth with 189.

Wolverine Conference foe Otsego won the girls’ championship as they captured half of the Top 10 spots en route to 23 points.

Mattawan was second with 39 points and Portage Central third with 81 points.

Dowagiac finished ninth with 246 points.

Chris Gantt once again led the Dowagiac boys’ squad as he finished 15th with a time of 17:46.

Alex Standiford of Mattawan was the overall winner with a time of 15:46.

Dowagiac’s other finishers in the varsity race were Ryne Wilming, who was 37th with a time of 20:53; Tyler Cross, who was 38th with a time of 21:17; Shane Filley, who was 49th with a time of 25:40; and Austin Jackson, who was 50th with a time of 26:40.

The Chieftains’ top finisher in the girls’ varsity race was Hannah McDonald, who finished 43rd with a time of 24:05.

Amanda Hassle was 46th with a time of 26:04, Sammy Mathews was 50th with a time of 27:05, Holly Luth was 53rd with a time of 27:20, Kelsey Cleveland was 54th with a time of 27:57, Alexa Batty was 55th with a time of 27:58 and Sarah Long was 56th with a time of 28:30.

Taylor Smith of Otsego was the overall winner with a time of 19:30.
