Josh Clark wins Shamrock Invitational

BERRIEN SPRINGS — Sophomore Bridgette Carpenter led the Niles girls’ cross country team to a second place finish at the Shamrock Invitational on Wednesday.
Carpenter was the overall champion, edging Lakeshore’s Sydney Shewmaker by 47 seconds to take the title with a time of 22:02.
Lakeshore won the girls’ team championship with 29 points, while Niles was second with 60 and host Berrien Springs third with 98.
Edwardsburg and Bridgman rounded out the top five with 105 and 114 points respectively.
Lake Michigan Catholic finished sixth (119) and New Buffalo seventh (188).
The Vikings’ Anne Tyler finished sixth overall with a time of 23:40. Abigail Gaines was 10th with a time of 24:23 and Maureen Craig 11th with a time of 24:26.
Ava McKeel placed 32nd (26:09), Libby Hein 34th (26:38) and Taylor Hess 40th (28:59).
Edwardsburg was led by Lindsay Ward’s eighth place finish and clocking of 24:08.
Nicole Brooks was 15th (24:40), Lauren Brady 21st (25:05), Taylor Kanaby 28th (25:42), Hannah Baylor 33rd (26:31), Kristine Handy 35th (27:03) and Lisa Billings 36th (27:40).
Lakeland Conference power Bridgman was the boys’ overall winner with a team total of 33 points.
Lake Michigan Catholic was second with 81 points and Lakeshore third with 82. Edwardsburg was fourth with 104 points and Eau Claire fifth with 106.
Niles finished sixth (142), New Buffalo seventh (172) and Berrien Springs eighth (209).
The Eddies’ Josh Clark was the individual champion with a time of 17:04.
Bridgman’s Cameron and Conner Magro finished second and third with time of 17:10 and 17:40 respectively.
Niles’ top finisher was Sam VandenHeede, who was fourth with a time of 17:46. VandenHeede was the first junior across the finish line.
Matthew McLaughlin was 25th for the Vikings with a time of 19:58, while Taylor Campbell was 35th with a time of 20:26.
Tate Brawley was 38th (20:59), Robbie Legus 40th (21:32), Daniel Sierra 46th (22:35) and Michael Geiger 48th (22:44).
Legus was 10th overall in the senior race to earn a medal for Niles, while Brawley and Geiger were sixth and ninth in the freshmen race, which also earned them a medal.
The Eddies also got a 14th place finish from Ben Getz (19:04), while Josh Eagleson was 18th (19:27), Allan Lopez 32nd (20:18), Austin Payne 39th (21:24), Greg Hall 42nd (21:51) and Evan Zimmerman 43rd (22:01).
