Dear editor:

On behalf of Safe Kids Cass County I would like to thank all of the individuals and agencies that helped to make our 5th Annual Bicycle Safety and helmet event a huge success.

Safe Kids Cass County is a collaboration of local agencies with the intention of providing information, education and events in an attempt to keep children safe. This event was held on Tuesday Aug. 3 at the Cass County Fair during Kids’ Day. The Safe Kids Cass County Chapter was able to purchase 143 bicycle helmets with donations received from the Cass County Youth Council, Sheriff Joseph Underwood and Greg Osborn from State Farm Insurance in Dowagiac. These helmets were given away to children participating in Kids’ Day who were in need of a bicycle helmet. Wal-Mart in Niles provided a bicycle that was raffled off and given to one child at the event.

Safe Kids Cass County would also like to thank the following agencies for donating their time; Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Cass County Family Court, Van Buren Cass District Health Department, Pokagon Tribal Police, Dowagiac Police Department and the Michigan State Police Niles Post.

We would not have been able to continue our bicycle safety event without the donations of money and time from these individuals. We hope Safe Kids Cass County will continue to provide safety events to the children of Cass County.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Dorman
