Raymond Hiemstra, 84, of Cassopolis, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, in Battle Creek.
He was born July 25, 1926 in Dowagiac to Corneilius and Marie (Flipse) Hiemstra. He served in the US Coast Guard. He married Ann (Hopkins) Hiemstra on June 14, 1947. She preceded him in death March 11, 1996.
Raymond is survived by six sons, Michael (Charlene) Hiemstra, Christopher Hiemstra and Jeffrey Hiemstra, all of Cassopolis, Timothy (Debbie) Hiemstra of Georgia, Peter (Sharon) Hiemstra of Radcliff, Kentucky and and Russell (Shirley) Hiemstra of Dowagiac; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Tina Leitke of Dowagiac and Louise Hunt of Kalamazoo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, David; one sister, Kathryn Kuhns; and three brothers, William Hiemstra, Harold Hiemstra and Herman Hiemstra.
Family and friends gathered for a memorial service Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at Dailey Church, 27046 Dunning St. (corner of Dailey Road). The Rev. Dr. David M. Waid, pastor of Dailey Church officiated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
