NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame defense continues to impress as it limits the Boilermakers to just 58 yards in the opening quarter.
- Dayne Crist looks particularly mobile on a pair of scrambles. He shows no signs of effect from last year’s knee surgery.
- Michael Floyd makes his first reception of 2010, which is good for 19 yards.
- With 11:47 to go in the second quarter, Notre Dame crosses the century mark in rushing. So much for the pass-happy offense!
- Purdue makes a switch at quarterback after falling behind 10-0. The switch to red-shirt freshman Rob Henry gives the Boilermakers a spark with his feet, not his arm. Robert Marve returns when Purdue gets inside the 15-yard line. The drive ends, however, with a Carson Wiggs 25-yard field goal to cut the lead back to one score.
- Notre Dame runs for more than 100 yards and throws for more than 100 yards in the opening half. Good balance to the offensive attack so far.
- Crist looks good in his first game at quarterback. He was 8-of-9 in the opening quarter and seems to have a solid grasp of what the Irish want to do offensively.
- Freshman T.J. Trailer makes his presence known in the opening half with several nice receptions.
- On one of his biggest offensive decisions of the first half, Brian Kelly decides to try a 46-yard field goal, which David Ruffer drills for a career-best.
- The Notre Dame defense has done a nice job of pressuring Purdue quarterback Marve. He has been forced out of the pocket multiple times as a result the Boilermaker offense has suffered.
- The first half of the Kelly era goes well with the Irish taking a 13-3 lead into the locker room.
