Two hurt in Eagle Lake accident

Two people susatained minor injuries when a 14-year-old Edwardsburg boy drove his personal watercraft into an eight-passenger deck boat.
Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported that the Cass County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol investigated a boating crash that occurred on Friday, July 30 at 6 p.m. on Eagle Lake in Ontwa Township.
A personal watercraft operated by Daniel J. Rousseau, of Edwardsburg ran into a deck boat driven by Keith MacDonell, 53, of NorthBrook, Ill.
Rousseau was not injured in the boating crash and a personal flotation device was being worn at the time.
Two of MacDonell’s passengers, Brett Lokhorst, 42, and Teresa Lokhorst, 45, of Norcross, Ga. sustained minor injuries during the crash. Both Lokhorst were taken to Saint Joseph Regional Hospital by family members. They were treated and released.
The deck boat had enough personal floatation devices on board and alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division was assisted at the scene by the Edwardsburg Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
