James’ life began Aug. 16, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Roy and Pearl (Graff) Kerr.

His family moved to this area during his school years, when he attended Dowagiac Central High School.

James was united in marriage to the former Joyce L. Clucas on April 25, 1959, in Elgin, Ill. He was a self-employed barber.

James was a member of Dowagiac Lions Club, Cass County Post 1855 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cassopolis.

He was an avid bowler and loved woodworking.

His loving family includes: his wife of 51 years, Joyce Kerr of Dowagiac; his children, David J. (Diane) Kerr of Coloma, Steven H. (Beverly) Kerr of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cynthia J. Wakefield of Sacramento, Calif., James W. Kerr of Bloomingdale, Ill., Jill S. (Don) Gross of Roselle, Ill., and John R. (Cindy) Kerr of Roselle, Ill.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Ballard of Medina, Ill.; one niece; and two nephews.

James, 77, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at his home. His family will gather with friends on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cassopolis where his memorial service will be held at 11 led by Pastor Paul Doellinger.
