LaPorte ‘major player’ in getting Class of ‘71 together

Dear editor:

I recently spent a week visiting my family in the Cass/Vandalia area and I have six questions/statements:

1. What can I do to get a vigilant sent to me in Shreveport, La. — or other/e-mail,  etc.

2. I wish to send my best wishes and prayers to Mr. Withers on his retirement for he was our bus custodian when I was there (Class of ’71 ) and Leo Lawson was our driver.

3. I am glad to see Mr. Benard Thomas come back to Cass as coach for not only is he a good coach but I truly believe he will be at home.

4. I truly wish to pass on my condolences to the LaPorte family for  Mr. Bruce LaPorte was a good friend of mine not only in school but up to the day.

5. I noticed in the July 1, 2010 issue a couple announcements in regard to class reunions; Mr. LaPorte was a major player in getting the class of 1971 together and is there anyone else in place to do so? If not, what can Cass schools, if anything, do to help us on our 40th reunion. I am willing to do what I can for our days are short.

6. I noticed that what I would have called the high school on state street is the Sam Adams middle school and that it is to be torn down. Is it possible that any of the bricks, especially on the front-facing State Street, be sold as souveniers? If not, only for the students that graduated from there but the teachers like Mr. Rodgers, Ms. Whitcomb, Mr. Raihala, Mrs. Fox or Mrs. Atkinson. I truly thank you folks for any help you can be in these areas and if at all possible I would to purchase a portion of the paper to put out any possible notice that would be helpful.

Thank  you sincerely,

Michael D. Warren
