With the primary election less than a month away, the Jefferson Township Community Awareness Group is doing their part to have a bigger turnout on Election Day.
The volunteer group is hosting a Candidates’ Nite and Pot-Luck Supper on Monday, July 12 at the Jefferson Township Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. The hall is located at 24725 Jefferson Center St., west of M-62.
In keeping with the group’s mission of “Improving the quality of life for the residents of Jefferson Township, through participation and communication,” chairperson Jeff Nelson noted, “We’re a non-partisan group and have never endorsed a candidate, but we want everyone to be as informed as they can be and, hopefully, realize how important their vote will be in this upcoming primary election.”
All federal, state and local candidates have been invited to meet with their potential constituents and speak to them briefly on their reasons for seeking office. Along with the candidates, local elected officials have been invited to take part in the program.
“Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish to pass,” Nelson said. “We’ll provide the hot dogs, hamburgers, buns and drinks. As always, there will be plenty of food, good conversation and discussions on how we can make our township an even better place to live.”
