Why I Relay

To the editor:
It seems like everywhere I turn, cancer is all around me.
My mother is a two-time colon cancer survivor.
My father in-law passed away from cancer nine months ago.
I have two co-workers currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
The thing is, everyone reading this can probably say the same thing.
I started volunteering for Relay For Life of Cass County in 1998, after a dear friend passed away from cancer.
Once I did it, I was hooked.
It’s great seeing our community come together once a year to fight against this disease.
I know in my heart that the little part we do in Cass County helps gets us closer to a cure.
Relay For Life of Cass County is July 17-18 at the Dowagiac Union High School starting at 10 a.m.
It’s not too late to volunteer or to start a new team.
Any Cancer survivor is invited to take part in our opening ceremony by walking in the survivor lap.
If you’ve never Relayed before, come and check it out.
There will be activities throughout the 24 hours including a live auction at 5 p.m.
I bet once you participate, you’ll be hooked like me!
