Find a way to keep Eastside

Dear editor:
As a long-time resident of Niles and now retired in Ohio, I have been following the saga of Eastside School in the Star, which I receive by mail.
My early school years were also spent at Eastside. I have four children who all attended K-12 in Niles and graduated from Niles High School. All four then furthered their education and received degrees from Michigan and Indiana colleges.
Now all four hold prestigious positions in large companies (Proctor and Gamble, Siemens and Merck) and one is a mobility teacher for both blind and deaf children. This proves to me that Niles has a very good basic education system – at least it did when my children completed their education there.
I hope the board will find a way to maintain this old but proud school building. We all need help as we age.
A very proud mother of four,
Betty Kyle
