Louise E. Salee, 99, of Rolling Meadow, Ill., formerly of Dowagiac, began her life on Feb. 19, 1911, in Chicago, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Leckler) Hagge.

She was a first grade school teacher in Dowagiac for many years.

Louise taught school at Kinchloe Elementary School, the Peavine Country School and several one-room schoolhouses in Cass County.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Salee on June 4, 1939, in Dowagiac.

She was a long time member of the Federated Covenant Church and belonged to the women’s fellowship group.

Louise was also active in the Retired Teacher’s Association in Cass County.

Her loving family includes: her daughter, Mary E. (Don Wilson) Salee of Schaumburg, Ill., and Floyd (Debbie) Salee of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Denise (Paul) Smith, William (Lakisha) Salee and Kristen (Gary) Dorton; great-grandchildren, Madison Salee and Kendall Dorton; and several nieces and nephews.

Louise passed away at Manor Care of Rolling Meadows on June 6, 2010.

She is preceded by her husband Floyd in 1992, and several brothers and sisters.

Her family will gather with friends on Saturday, June 19, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel, where her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. led by Pastors Rob and Jen Lowe of the Federated Covenant Church.

She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Federated Covenant Church or the Cass County Council on Aging.
