Niles Garden Club learn at recent meeting about France, Holland travels

The Niles Garden Club held its June meeting at the Law Enforcement complex on the corner of Silverbrook and East Main Street on Tuesday.
The program was presented by Eve and Judge Herb Phillipson, of Dowagaic. They have traveled extensively and shared their movies of various gardens around the world from Fernwood in Buchanan to Holland and France.They visited the gardens where most of the Holland tulip bulbs are grown. This garden is only open three months of the year when everything is in bloom. Also shown were movies of Chicago’s Garfield Park and Chicago’s Botanical Garden.
After the program, president Wendie Stephenson conducted the business meeting. Angela Siekman was welcomed as a new member to the club and several guests were introduced. The minutes were approved as written in the newsletter. Members were reminded that dues were due and the treasurer’s report was passed out for approval. The plant sale was a success and everyone was thanked for all their help. The meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be July 6 at the Law Enforcement Complex at 12:30 p.m. for the business meeting with the program starting at 1 p.m. The program will be “Incredible Edibles,” featuring herbs presented by club members Jay Clancy and master gardener and landscape design consultant Elva Nugent.
