ALLEGAN – The Dowagiac varsity baseball team wrapped up its regular season Friday night and will head into the postseason with a five-game winning streak.
The Chieftains swept host Allegan in Wolverine Conference play, 4-1 and 1-0.
Aaron Blaske scattered six hits and struck out six to square his record at 3-3 in the opening.
Dowagiac finished with eight hits, including two each from Alex Miller and Jason Turner.
Blaske and Brett Scanlon both singled and drove in a run. Turner also had an RBI.
In the second game, Cal Cox earned his first career varsity victory with a three-hitter that featured 10 strikeouts.
“Both Blaske and Cox pitched great games in the heat,” Dowagiac coach Bryan Henry said. “We didn’t have a lot of pitching left, so it was good to have both pitched seven innings. Both did an outstanding job.”
Dowagiac made the most of three hits in the nightcap.
Turner had a double and a single, while Cody Cox doubled and drove in the game’s only run.
“It was a really good week,” Henry said. “We have built some confidence heading into districts.”
