Food drive successful

Dear editor:
The letter carriers’ 18th annual food drive was a success in spite of the bad weather!
Cold rain and wind for the second year in a row did not keep away the food as the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 775 counted 52,124 pounds for 2010!
In 2009 we delivered 52,758 pounds of food to local food banks.
Niles, Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Dowagiac, New Buffalo and Three Oaks post offices restocked food shelves as the schools let out for summer, meaning no school lunch for kids.
Nationwide, so far, we have passed our goal of over 1 billion pounds of food. Yay! By June 1 we will have out national total weight.
We want to thank our donors for food for the workers: Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Saylor’s, Martin’s Supermarket, Hacker’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, Dairy Queen, Wendy’s, Wings Etc., Mancino’s, Little Caesar’s and Milano’s.
Special thank you to: NALC Branch 775, United Way of Greater Niles and to our newspapers and radio stations.
Thank you to all of the volunteers. Our families and friends and food bank workers made the work much lighter.
Niles Food Driver Workers,
Chris Cloud
