Baseball roundup: Bobcats top Panthers; Niles sweeps Tigers

The Brandywine baseball team improved to 19-14 on the year with an 11-1 win over visiting Watervliet on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning and then exploded for five runs in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Kyle King picked up the win for the Bobcats.
Alex Erwin and Wayne Marazita also pitched for Brandywine.
Cody Udell, Joe Godfrey and Dustin Bell all had doubles.
Brandywine will host White Pigeon on Thursday in another non-conference contest.

Niles at Benton Harbor
BENTON HARBOR – The Niles baseball team swept a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader from host Benton Harbor on Tuesday.
The Vikings won the opener 8-5 and then blanked the Tigers 8-0 in the nightcap.
David Garner scattered seven hits to earn the victory in the first game.
TheVikings finished with 11 hits, including a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles from Gardner.
Chris Mangus was 3-for-4 with a double, while Kevin Gross was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Matthew McLaughlin also had two hits for Niles.
In the nightcap, Mangus tossed a three-hitter to earn the mound victory.
Niles had eight more hits in the nightcap, led by Garner who was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles.
Aaron Davis was 2-for-3 with a double and Taylor Campbell added a triple.

Dowagiac at Paw Paw
PAW PAW – Getting off to a quick start in both games helped the visiting Dowagiac baseball team sweep Paw Paw in a Wolverine Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Chieftains banged out 16 hits in winning the first game 16-2.
Dowagiac completed the sweep with a 12-2 win in five innings.
Zac Hyatt tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win in the opener and improve to 5-3 on the year.
Jason Turner led the hitting parade with four singles and four RBIs. Cal Cox singled and doubled to drive in four runs, while Aaron Blaske had two hits and three RBIs.
Hyatt singled and doubled to drive in two runs and Mike Pranschke added two hits and a RBI to the Chieftains’ totals. Brett Scanlon also drove in a run.
In the second game Turner tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
Cox had another two hits and four more RBIs, while Andrew Kurdelmeyer had two hits and three RBIs.
Turner helped his own cause with a double and two RBIs. Cody Carnell drove in two runs and Blaske picked up an RBI.
“That definitely helped getting off to the quick start,” Dowagiac coach Bryan Henry said. “It gave our pitchers some early run support and they could just focus on throwing strikes and getting outs. Cal Cox had a great day with eight RBIs and Jason Turner continues to swing it well.
“It was nice to get 16 hits in the first game to get our confidence going,” he added.
