CASSOPOLIS – Cass County commissioners May 20 appointed Judith Simpson to the Historical Commission for an unexpired term ending July 1, 2011.

Simpson is secretary of the county Historical Society, volunteers at the Council on Aging and The Museum at Southwestern Michigan College and serves as LaGrange Township deputy clerk.

Commissioners also named Tom Swartz to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
His term was not specified.

Reappointed to the Solid Waste Planning Commission were Tommy Harman, Mike Laufer, Irving Frost Jr.. and Kenneth Hartman for terms ending June 1, 2012.

Commissioner Carl Higley, R-Ontwa Township, withdrew the reappointment of Larry Shaw because he has not been able to reach Shaw to see if he is interested in continuing to serve.
