CASSOPOLIS – “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is an ABC-television Sunday night sensation that takes a deserving family on an emotional journey from the demolition of an existing house through the building of a brand new home.

On a smaller scale, Midwest Energy Cooperative is interested in making a similar difference in the life of one of its member families with its inaugural Midwest Home Energy Makeover project. The goal is to update the overall energy efficiency of an existing home, giving a deserving family an opportunity to enjoy increased home comfort in a more energy-efficient environment. And while it may not have quite the emotional punch of the ABC version, the Midwest team believes it could make a significant difference in the life of one of its families.

Midwest invites nominations from its members for this project. A team of Midwest employees and volunteers will review all nominations.

Five finalists will be selected for further review and onsite energy audits, based on the application and essay, with one ultimately selected as the winner.

The Midwest team will work with the winning family through the summer and early fall in preparation for an October workday blitz, during which volunteers and contractors will come together to implement the home energy makeover plan.
